BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team kicks-off its spring season in Daytona Beach, Florida at the Gary Freeman Invitational. Bethune-Cookman hosts the tournament for the second consecutive year at LPGA International. Competition is set to tee off at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 and conclude Friday, March 4.
LAST TIME OUT
The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team finished its fall season at The Connecticut Cup, which was held at the Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Connecticut. The Blackbirds carded 304 in their final round of competition, placing 9th of 16 teams for the team's best finish thus far.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
Junior Rodrigo Munoz had the lowest score of the tournament for LIU in the team's fall finale, finishing at three-over par. The San Miguel, Mexico native claims one of two top-15 finishes for the 2015-16 season. Freshman George Helsby claimed sixth at the Binghamton Invitational last October, shooting a personal best 69 on day one and 75 on day two. The lone senior Stewart Gray leads the team with the lowest stroke average of 75 going into spring competition.
FIRST ROUND
This will be the Blackbirds' first appearance at the Gary Freeman Invitational, named after legendary B-CU golf coach Dr. Gary Freeman. The annual event pays tribute to a man that was the face of the Wildcats golf program for many years before retiring and eventually passing away just under five years ago.
THE COURSE
The Jones Course at LPGA International will be played as a par-72, 6,913-yard setup on the men's side.
