Final Results
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – On the final day of the Gary Freeman Invitational, the LIU Brooklyn men's golf team finished in eighth, carding 306 in the third and final round of competition at LPGA International. The Blackbirds shot 923 over two days of play and tallied 25 birdies for all three rounds.
On Friday, junior Rodrigo Munoz posted the best round so far this spring for the Blackbirds, carding 73 to stand alone in 39th in a field of 94 golfers. Senior Stewart Gray birdied 4 holes on day two, finishing at 14-over par to remain in 44th overall.
Junior Jake Spearpoint shot 233 on the Jones course over three rounds of play, garnering 54th after his eight-over par performance on Friday. Coming in fourth for LIU is freshman Daniel Reale, who was one stroke behind Spearpoint in the final round and claimed 61st after carding 237 for the tournament.
George Helsby improved his score by three strokes from the previous round, putting the freshman in 63rd with a score of 239. Rounding out the Blackbirds is sophomore Kyle Maihi, who bettered his score by two strokes from the second round and finished the invitational at 24-over par.
Lynn University claimed first with a combined score of -24, which was 21 strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Morehead State. Lynn University's Martin Cancino earned medalist honors for his eight-under par performance in Daytona Beach.
