BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team hosted two-time defending Northeast Conference Champion, Bryant, on Friday eveing.
Despite a valiant first-half effort by the Blackbirds, the team fell to the Bulldogs, 13-7.
Jenn Peters led the offense for the Blackbirds in their hard-fought battle, scoring twice.
Kathryn Harvey,
Rorie Crum,
Carlie Robinson,
Tori Shinkowitz and
Jillian May would also contribute to the team's goal total, each earning a goal apiece.
The game remained scoreless until LIU's Harvey would find the back of the net with 23:38 on the clock, to give the Blackbirds the 1-0 advantage.
LIU and Bryant would exchange goals throughout the entire first period, which gave way to a 5-5 halftime score. May, Peters, Shinkowitz and Crum would be LIU's first-half scorers.
After halftime, LIU came out strong right away with a Peters' goal just nine seconds in the second half, to lift the score to 6-5. But Bryant would respond with a 3-0 run, to take the 8-6 lead.
The Blackbirds kept chopping, with a Robinson goal with 21:50 left in the game. But it was Bryant who outscored the Blackbirds, 8-2 in the second half to eventually get the win.
Both Bryant's Jess DeMeo and Nicole Britton would earn hat tricks in the matchup. But senior
Alexis Maldonado had a stellar 60 minutes between the pipes, posting 17 saves against a forceful Bryant offense.
LIU also showed a defensive spark by leading Bryant in caused turnovers, 11-6.
Up next, the Blackbirds will play their final game of the season on Sunday, May 1. The team will host Central Connecticut on Senior Day, with a first draw set for 12:00 p.m.
