SOMERSET, N.J. - Seniors Brendon Rodney and Kyaira Wright-Harmon earn Northeast Conference accolades for their performances this past weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Rodney has been named the NEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the first time during his final outdoor campaign. Wright-Harmon is this week's NEC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete for the first time this season.
Fresh off his All-American 200m indoor performance, Rodney contested the 400m dash outdoors at the Florida Relays and the result was noteworthy. The Canadian-born Blackbird flew to a fourth-place finish in 45.96, registering the fifth-fastest time on the early-season NCAA Division I performance list. Rodney, who has yet to run the 200m dash outdoors this spring, owns the No. 1 spot on the IC4A regional leader board for the 400m with his time standing one-half second better than the second-place occupant.
The NEC Outdoor Championship meet record holder has leapt to the early-season conference lead in the high jump. Wright-Harmon, who cleared 1.78m at the league title meet in Emmitsburg last May, registered her first high jump performance of the new outdoor season at the Florida Relays. Contesting a highly-talented field, the Garden State product successfully cleared 1.73m (5' 8") and qualified for the ECAC Championships while doing so. She is one of 29 performers in the NCAA Division I East Region to jump at least 1.73m this outdoor season.
