BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn track and field teams will commute to Piscataway, N.J. for the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. Bauer Track and Field Complex on the campus of Rutgers University will serve as the host site of the 2016 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, which will be held on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.
LAST TIME OUT
In the men's 400m dash, Brendon Rodney sprinted into fourth clocking 45.96. Senior Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme had the best individual finish for the Blackbirds, placing third in the 400m hurdles with his time of 50.55. Senior Kyaira Wright-Harmon placed sixth in the women's high jump, jumping 1.73m.
ABOUT THE METRO CHAMPS
The Metro Outdoor Championships are back in New Jersey for the 2015-16 season after a two year hiatus. The Blackbirds last competed at the meet during the team's 2012-13 outdoor campaign.
The men placed fourth in a field of 12 teams, while the women garnered third of 13 teams. A sophomore at the time, Rodney was dominating the 100m dash, taking first in the preliminary and final heats. In the men's 400m dash, Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme and Alistair McLean both clinched top-10 finishes. Petit-Homme took fourth overall and McLean claimed ninth in the event. Rodney and McLean were part of the 4x400m relay team that took first in the event with a time of 3:17.19, while Petit-Homme contributed to the Blackbirds' third place finish in the 4x800m relay.
The women's team recorded an impressive 19 top-10 individual finishes. Josephine Watson, Alea Stevens and Anise Cuffee placed 9th, 11th and 12th in the 400m dash as freshmen. With a time of 1:08.18, Stevens secured eighth in the 400m hurdles in a field of 18 hurdlers. The women's 4x100m relay team took second with a time of 47.20, while LIU took third in the 4x400m relay. Kyaira Wright-Harmon took gold in what would become two of her strongest events, the high jump and long jump in her rookie season.

The track and field teams will take one week off from competition before returning to the track for the Georgia Tech Invitational held in Atlanta, Georgia by Georgia Tech University.
