NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The LIU Brooklyn men's track and field team kicked off championship weekend with a win in the men's long jump to start the day adding 10 points to the men's score.
Junior Adam-Walker Khan successfully defended his long jump title with a mark of 7.00m, putting a distance of 0.28m between himself and the second place finisher. In the same event, junior Jahphan Lupuku took tenth with his jump of 6.22m and Delano Davis was right behind Lupuku in 11th overall at 6.21m.
Karl Cajuste, Roderick Moodie and Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme have all secured their spots in the 110m hurdles finals heat tomorrow with their times of 14.69, 14.77 and 14.79, respectively.
Four Blackbirds will vie for the 400m dash title tomorrow. Alistair McLean had the second fastest preliminary time of 48.59, followed by teammate Tyler Cue crossing the line at 48.72. They will go up against freshman Deshawne Bunion and Petit-Homme on Sunday, who also qualified for spots in the finals with times of 48.76 and 49.21.
Brendon Rodney posted the fastest 100m dash preliminary time of 10.59, looking to defend his title on Sunday. Rodney will be joined by five other Blackbirds in the final heat, including Caleb Williams, Delano Davis, Kyle Bennett, Ernest Agyeman and Kobe White.
McLean went on to set the fastest 400m hurdles prelim time on Saturday, clocking 53.36. Also securing spots in the final heat are Petit-Homme and Cajuste with times of 54.38 and 55.50.
In his signature event, the 200m dash, Rodney leads the field with his time of 21.00, followed by Davis in second, Cue in third and Williams in fourth going into the championship heat tomorrow.
In the men's 4x800m relay, the LIU Brooklyn squad took fifth to earn four points in the event and closeout day one competition.
