2016 LIU Brooklyn Field Hockey Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn head field hockey coach Pat Kennedy announced the first schedule in her program's history on Thursday. The Blackbirds will play the first game of their inaugural campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Davidson.
The first nine contests, eight of which are non-conference affairs, will be played away from downtown Brooklyn. In addition to the season opener, the Blackbirds will take on Appalachian State in North Carolina on Sept. 4, before a pair of games in the Mid-Atlantic region against Penn (Sept. 9) and Towson (Sept. 18).
A trip to Missouri will see LIU Brooklyn take on the host Missouri State Bears on Thursday, Sept. 22, with additional neutral-site matches against Pacific (Sept. 23) and UC Davis (Sept. 25) comprising the four-day event. Another road game at Villanova will lead into LIU's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener against Bryant on Friday, Oct. 7.
LIU will host Monmouth in another MAAC contest on Sunday, Oct. 9, marking the first collegiate field hockey game to ever be contested at LIU Field. Following a trip to the Albany area to take on Siena on Oct. 14, two more league games against Rider (Oct. 20) and Sacred Heart (Oct. 23) will also be hosted in Brooklyn.
The regular season concludes with back-to-back road contests against Fairfield and Ivy League opponent Columbia at the end of October, leading into the MAAC Tournament which will be played on Nov. 4-6. The top four seeds during regular-season play will participate, with the winner earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
