BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Recent LIU Brooklyn graduate and former women's soccer standout Lucy Gunton-Jones has signed her first professional contract and will play with FC Neunkirch of the Women's Nationalliga A, the top division in Switzerland, for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
A two-time First Team All-Northeast Conference selection, Gunton-Jones was a rock along the backline for the Blackbirds for four seasons. The 5-2 defender started 75 of a possible 78 matches during her career and accumulated 16 assists to rank third in program history. As a freshman, she was named to the NEC's All-Rookie Team and helped LIU to the program's fourth Northeast Conference championship.
Gunton-Jones joins an FC Neunkirch squad that finished second in the top Swiss division last season with 43 points. In 2015, the team advanced to the semifinals of the Swiss Women's Cup. Last season's FC Neunkirch roster featured players from Portugal, Slovakia, Germany, England, Canada, Hungary, Austria and the United States, as well as Switzerland.
The team will begin competition in early August.
