BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Former LIU Brooklyn volleyball standout Tamara Ignjic signed her first professional contract with CSU Medicina Targu-Mures of Romania's first division. Ignjic, who helped the Blackbirds to four Northeast Conference regular-season titles and three trips to the NCAA Tournament, is expected to begin the 2016-17 season with her new club in October.
A four-time First Team All-Northeast Conference selection during her four years with LIU, Ignjic closed her illustrious career with 1,506 kills to rank fourth all-time in program history. The Belgrade, Serbia native was a member of Blackbird teams that went a remarkable 56-2 during regular-season NEC play, including three undefeated seasons from 2012-2014. Also a standout student, Ignjic was a four-time member of the NEC's Fall Academic Honor Roll and graduated in May with a bachelor's degree.
Ignjic joins a CSU Medicina team under the direction of Petrov Atanas, a long-time professional coach who has previously served as the head coach of the Romanian National Team. He led CSKA Sofia to five Bulgarian championships and three national cups from 2004-10.
