CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The LIU Brooklyn volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Boston College Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Boston College Invitational. The Blackbirds fell to the Eagles 25-14, 25-23, 25-14, and are now 0-3 on the season.

BC took control of the match from the first serve, going up 4-1 on LIU quickly. The Blackbirds struggled to recover, and the Eagles widened their lead to 11-4. LIU wouldn't recover from early setbacks, and Boston College's widest lead of the set came on an LIU attack error, 21-11.  The Blackbirds would score a few late points, but it wouldn't be enough, as BC won the first set on a kill, 25-14.

The second set was close throughout. Boston College went up early, 4-2, but the Blackbirds were able to score three unanswered points to take the lead. Two blocks and a service ace gave LIU its first lead of the day, 5-4. The two teams would trade the lead back and forth from there, staying within three points of each other. BC took the lead late in the set, 23-20, but the Blackbirds fought hard to come back. A kill from senior Alex Larsen, followed by a solo block by freshman Katharina Krepper cut the gap down to 23-22. BC answered with a kill to earn set point, but Krepper had one more kill to keep LIU within one point, 24-23. In the end, the Eagles got the final kill, taking the set 25-23, and the match lead, 2-0.

Set three looked like it was going to be another battle, as the two teams were close to start off. Larsen's kill would tie the score up for LIU, 8-8, but then the Eagles went on a run. Boston College would score seven straight points to widen the lead over LIU to 15-8. The Blackbirds struggled to make up the difference from there. At the end of the set, another run by the Eagles sealed the deal. Four unanswered points for BC gave the home team the set win, 25-14, and the match victory, 3-0.

Up next, the Blackbirds travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take part in the Ohio State Invitational tournament. There, LIU will face off against the University of Wyoming, No.15 Ohio State, and No.13 BYU, in three games over two days.
