Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Liz Young and Bianca Mills each scored a pair of goals to help Missouri State defeat the LIU Brooklyn field hockey team, 6-0, on Thursday evening. Freshmen Anna Bauer and Madi Cook each had shots for the Blackbirds, who will return to action on Friday against the University of Pacific.
After the first shot of the contest was denied by LIU goalkeeper Molly Jannell, Bauer registered the first shot of the match for the Blackbirds but missed wide in the third minute. In the seventh minute, Mills broke the scoreless deadlock with a goal off a corner to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
The Bears added four more goals in the opening 35 minutes to take a 5-0 advantage into the second stanza. After intermission, LIU Brooklyn was able to hold Missouri State to just one goal and scoreless for the final 32:57. Jannell stopped four shots over the span.
The contest against Pacific on Friday, Sept. 23 beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. Two days later on Sunday, Sept. 25, the Blackbirds will conclude their trip to Missouri with a matchup with UC Davis.
