Marian Awad each scored their second goals of the season. But Sydney McNutt and Megan Fritz netted two goals apiece for Wagner College en route to a 5-3 victory Friday evening, in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams. The Blackbirds fall to 0-9-0, 0-1-0 NEC with the loss.
LIU Brooklyn opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute. Peters received a pass from senior
Brooke Logel and fired a shot into the back of the net.
The Seahawks (2-9-0, 1-0-0 NEC) responded in the 33
rd minute. McNutt touched a long pass from Sandra Battista behind junior keeper
Erin Harbison (three saves).
Wagner added another goal in the 41
st minute. Fritz placed a shot into the top-right corner of the net to make it 2-1.
The Seahawks opened the second half with pressure which led to an insurance tally off the foot of Taylor Sackaris in the 50
th minute.
LIU Brooklyn, which outshot Wagner 17-12, followed the Wagner score with scoring chances. First, Gomez had a shot blocked in the 50
th minute. Then, the senior sent another chance wide in the 51
st minute.

Tori Shinkowitz had a chance stopped by Wagner keeper Katie Viscardi (five saves) in the 62
nd minute.
The Blackbirds play with possession paid off. Gomez propelled a shot from 25 yards out, off of a pass from
Brittany Galske, into the back of the net.
But Wagner had an answer. Fritz and McNutt scored in the 71
st and 73
rd minute to make it 5-2.
Awad scored in the 78
th minute, but LIU Brooklyn's comeback came up short.
The Blackbirds return to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Bryant to take on the Bulldogs. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
