BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite outshooting Robert Morris 21-12 this Saturday on LIU Field, the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team fell to the Colonials, 1-0, in their first loss in Northeast Conference play. The Blackbirds had numerous shots on net, including one that hit the crossbar, but RMU's keeper Winter Fondi made nine saves in the contest to give his team the close win.

In the first half of the game, the Blakcbirds dominated, outshooting the Colonials, 10-3. Naeem Charles, Rasmus Hansen and Giuseppe Barone all had shots on goal in the first ten minutes of play that were saved by Fondi. LIU maintained momentum throughout the first half, forcing possession in RMU's half for almost the entire period. The Colonials had just one shot on net in the first 45 minutes, which freshman keeper Anthony Sciola saved.

RMU picked up the offense in the second half, getting four shots off in the first five minutes of the period, including another that was saved by Sciola. The Colonials goal would come in the 64th minute of play. A pass through the middle to Bayley Winkel saw the senior take a shot in traffic that slipped into the right corner past the LIU defense and Sciola, putting the visitors up, 1-0.

The Blackbirds would have several very real chances at net in the last 25 minutes of the game. Sophomore Christopher Bjarre Solbakken had a header off a corner that Fondi saved, and in the 72nd minute, Erik Wahlin had a header off a corner kick that hit the cross bar and bounced down, but RMU was able to clear it before LIU got another chance to get it on net. Wahlin would have another shot later in the contest, but again it missed the mark. RMU was able to hold off LIU's pressure as the time went down, and the Colonials took the win, 1-0.

With the win, RMU moves to 3-9-2 overall, 2-2-1 in NEC action, while LIU is 4-7-2 overall, and 3-1 in the NEC. Up next, the Blackbirds host Bryant, Friday October 27 on LIU Field at 5 p.m.
