BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn field hockey sophomore Molly Jannell was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Janell becomes the first player in program history to earn weekly honors from the conference office for her play.
Jannell finished the week with 20 saves in net for LIU. The sophomore's performance this weekend was highlighted by her 15 saves in LIU's first-ever win, a 2-1 upset of Fairfield. Jannell faced 28 shots in the win, stopping 15, including a penalty stroke at point-blank range to keep the Blackbirds in the game. She is currently second in the MAAC, with 91 saves so far this season.
