BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team will attempt to win its third consecutive game on Monday when the Blackbirds make a in-state trip to face Army West Point.

QUICK HITS
  • LIU's win over UMBC marked the first time LIU has won back-to-back games since January 2 & 4 of 2016 at Mount Saint Mary's (61-51) and Central Connecticut (59-45). A third straight victory would be the first time for an LIU team since December 11-21, 2014.
  • The newcomer duo of graduate transfer Denisha Petty-Evans and freshman Jeydah Johnson has made an immediate impact on the Blackbirds this season. Petty-Evans leads the team with 19.0 PPG while Johnson is second with 16.0 PPG. The two have finished 1-2 in points scored in each of LIU's three games, culminating in career/season highs against UMBC on November 17 (26 for Petty-Evans, 22 for Johnson). The last pair of teammates to score 20+ points in the same game were Aja Boyd (28) and Shanovia Dove (21) in last year's season finale at Wagner on February 27.
  • A major key to LIU's good start has been its ability to take care of the basketball. In its two wins, the Blackbirds have combined for 26 assists (13.0/gm) and 23 turnovers (11.5/gm). By contrast, LIU turned the ball over 27 times and nine assists in its season-opening loss to Yale.
  • Army West Point is 1-2 heading into Monday's game, dropping its last two contests to NEC members Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Francis Brooklyn. The Black Knights hold a 5-1 edge over the Blackbirds in the all-time series. LIU"s lone victory came on December 4, 1999 in West Point.
  • The Black Knights are led by Madison Hovren (15.7 PPG, 10.3 RPG) and Libby Tacka (3.0 APG).
