BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team continues its swing through New England this weekend, taking on Brown in Providence, R.I., Saturday, November 25 at 1 p.m. It's the fourth-straight game on the road for LIU, who's playing seven of their first eight games away from downtown Brooklyn.
QUICK HITTERS
- The Blackbirds bounced back from an 18-point first half deficit Wednesday afternoon to cut UMass Lowell's lead to just one point with less than 90 seconds to play, but the River Hawks would score seven unanswered points in the final minute of action to take the win, 74-66.
- LIU moved to 2-4 on the season with the loss at Lowell.
- Junior Raiquan Clark led LIU in scoring for the fourth time this season, with 21 points (8-of-14 shooting), and five rebounds.
- Senior Joel Hernandez had 18 points, six rebounds and two assists for LIU, while senior Zach Coleman had a career-high 15 rebounds to lead LIU, along with nine points and three assists. Senior Jamall Robinson added a season-high 10 points.
- The Blackbirds, just one game after having their best three-point performance in two years, struggled from long range, shooting just 21.4 percent (6-for-28).
- This is the first meeting between Brown and LIU Brooklyn in men's basketball. Brown (2-2) is coming off two road losses against Stony Brook (77-64) and St. Francis Brooklyn (77-74). The Bears' only Division I win of the season came over Quinnipiac, 79-72. They've also beaten Johnson and Wales.
- Brown is a young squad, with all four of their top scorers coming from the freshman or sophomore class. Sophomore guard Brandon Anderson is the top scorer, averaging 19.3 points per game, while freshman guard Desmond Cambridge adds 13.5 points per game, and sophomore guard Zach Hunsaker chips in 12. Sophomore forward Josh Howard averages 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Junior forward Obi Okolie, the team's top returning scorer, played for the first time against Stony Brook and had nine points.
