Women's Basketball To Take On NJIT In Newark Wednesday

BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team will look to snap a two-game losing streak Wednesday evening in its final game of November at NJIT.

  • The Blackbirds lost its last game, a 69-53 defeat at Lafayette, despite three players reaching double figures and freshman Jeydah Johnson pacing the team with 18 points - her second straight game leading LIU in scoring.
  • Johnson and graduate transfer Denisha Petty-Evans continue to lead the team in scoring, with Petty-Evans placing third in the NEC (15.8) and Johnson coming in fourth (15.6). Senior DeAngelique Waithe leads the team in reboundinig (7.8; 4th in NEC) and redshirt junior Drew Winter is tied for the conference lead in assists (4.8).
  • The Blackbirds went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line against Lafayette. The last time LIU didn't miss from the charity stripe in a game with ten or more attempts was on February 16, 2008 in a 59-48 home conference win against Central Connecticut (11-for-11). LIU was also a perfect 8-for-8 against UMBC on November 17.
  • Freshman Daisha Davis made her collegiate debut against Lafayette. The New York native checked in during the second quarter and finished the night with a block and a rebound in two minutes.
  • The winner of Wednesday's contest will break a 3-3 tie in the all-tiime between LIU and NJIT. The Blackbirds will be looking for its first win in three games in the series (57-43 on December 11, 2014).
  • NJIT enters Wednesday winless in six tries, losing its last game to Dartmouth 81-50. The Highlanders are led by Tatianna Torres (11.2 PPG, 3.2 APG) and Danielle Tunstall (7.0 RPG).

LIU will play the first of five games in Brooklyn in December on Saturday, December 2 when the Blackbirds face Michigan at 12 noon.
