Men's Track & Field | Dec 01 | Track Starts 2017-18 Campaign At Fastrack Opener Story Links Full Results STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track & field teams kicked off their 2017-18 campaigns Friday evening by taking part in the Fastrack Metropolitan Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Blackbird teams combined for 24 top 20 finishes - 13 for the men and 11 for the women. Junior Clinton Belle earned LIU's first individual victory of the new year by finishing first in the shot put with a top toss of 46-5.25 (14.15m). Belle's winning throw came on his first attempt and withstood the tosses of 14 other challengers. One of the two second-place finishes for the Blackbird women also came in the shot put as sophomore Taylor Parker logged a top throw of 44-0.75, about two feet shy of the winning mark of 46-2.75. The best showings for both teams on the track came in the 400 meters after junior Shantae McDonald and freshman Justin Brown ran second in their respective races. McDonald (59.02) won her section - besting freshman teammate Toni Glatz by .07 seconds - while Brown's 50.17 time was second in his section and ended up second overall.
