Stephanie Del Preore has signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at LIU beginning in the 2018-19 season. Joining the Blackbird program are Kiara Bell from Cherry Hill (N.J.) High School; Camille Gray from Franklin (N.J.) High School; Shyla Sanford from Shaker High School in Latham, N.Y.; Brandy Thomas of Christ The King High School in Middle Village, N.Y.; Ryan Weise from Allentown (N.J.) High School.
Kiara Bell / Cherry Hill (N.J.) High School / 6-2 / Forward
Highlights: Led Cherry Hill to a berth in the NJSIAA Group IV playoffs as a junior...plays AAU for Books & Basketball Mackay.
Del Preore on Bell: "Kiara will bring an added physicality to the post that we have not had during my tenure at LIU. She has the ability to impact a game with her ability to rebound, block shots, and defend inside."
Camille Gray / Franklin (N.J.) High School / 5-9 / Guard
Highlights: Helped lead Franklin to a NJSIAA Group 4 State and Tournament of Champions title in 2016-17, earning NJ.com's Team of the Year award and a No. 1 final ranking...plays AAU for Team Miller Lighting.
Del Preore on Gray: "Camille comes from Franklin High School, the overall state champion in New Jersey last year. Camille is one of the best defensive guards in the New York Metropolitan area and brings a tenacity that the rest of our team will feed off of. She is a combo guard who will be able to play multiple positions for us on offense and defense."
Shyla Sanford / Shaker (N.Y.) High School / 5-9 / Guard
Highlights: Helped lead Shaker to an appearance in the New York Section 2 Class AA championship game as a junior...plays AAU for New York Havoc.
Del Preore on Sanford: "Shyla was our first commit in this class and helped set the tone for how special this class would be. Shyla is a combo guard who can handle the ball, shoot the three, and defend the other team's best player."
Brandy Thomas / Christ The King (N.Y.) High School / 5-8 / Guard-Forward
Highlights: Led CTK to a BQCHSAA championship as a junior...plays AAU for New Heights.
Del Preore on Thomas: "Brandy comes from Christ the King, which is one of the most storied girl's basketball programs in the state and the entire country. Her ability to play any position on the floor will bring added versatility to our program and her strength and toughness will be evident from day one."
Ryan Weise / Allentown (N.J.) High School / 5-8 / Guard
Highlights: Named NJ.com's 2016-17 Colonial Valley Conference Player of the Year and NJ.com All-Group 3 Third Team in 2016-17 after averaging 18.9 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds during a 21-6 campaign...has scored over 1,200 points during her scholastic career...plays AAU for New Jersey Belles and New Jersey Cardinals.
Del Preore on Weise: "Ryan comes from a basketball family. Her mom played at the University of Delaware and her father played at Rider so basketball is in her blood. She has a high basketball IQ, is the consummate competitor on both ends of the floor, and is a tremendous three-point shooter. She will add great depth to our guard position and really help us to stretch the floor on offense."
