RADFORD, Va. - The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team had the game tied up in the second half, but couldn't stay with Radford as a late scoring spree gave the Highlanders the win, 16-10.

Mary McQueen opened scoring in the contest, netting an unassisted goal just two minutes into play to put the Blackbirds up, 1-0. Over the next 15 minutes, Radford would score five unanswered goals to take the lead, but McQueen would strike again with eight minutes left in the half to keep LIU in the game. Sierra O'Connor would score a goal off a pass from Kathryn Harvey two minutes later, and with a man up, senior Tori Shinkowitz had another goal off a Harvey pass to cut the lead to 7-4. Harvey would score an unassisted goal of her own as the clock ran down to halftime, and LIU had cut the gap to just two points, 7-5.

Senior Jenn Peters opened scoring in the second half off the feed from classmate Jillian May, just 90 seconds into play. Four minutes later, O'Connor evened the score at 7-7 with her unassisted goal, and LIU stuck close from there. Radford would score to retake the 8-7 lead, but O'Conner scored her third goal of the game to tie it up again, 8-8 with 22 minutes to play.

From there, however, the Highlanders were able to score five unanswered goals, widening the lead back up to 13-8.  Harvey added a goal at the 11:30 mark, and May would score one with four minutes remaining, but Radford added another three goals to the tally before all was said and done, taking the 16-10 victory.

Harvey led LIU in points, with two goals and two assists along with three draw controls, while O'Connor finished with three goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Up next, the Blackbirds travel to South Carolina, to take on Presbyterian and Furman, Monday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 8.
