BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team moved to 4-18 on the season and 3-8 in Northeast Conference action Saturday afternoon in the Steinberg Wellness Center, falling to Saint Francis University, 74-30. The Red Flash improved to 9-2 in NEC action with the win.
LIU shot just 18.6 percent from the field in the defeat, going 11-for-59 as a team.
The Blackbirds opened scoring in the contest, on a layup from freshman
Aja Boyd. Three minutes later, senior
Shanovia Dove hit a three pointer to tie the score up, 5-5, and Boyd added another layup 37 seconds afterwards to give LIU the lead, 7-5. But LIU wouldn't score a field goal for the remainder of the period, and SFU went on a 13-3 run to take an 18-10 advantage after the first ten minutes of play.
The Red Flash would continue the run into the second period. LIU was held without a field goal for 13 of 20 minutes in the first half, as the visiting team went on a 21-0 run, taking the lead, 39-10. Sophomore
Drew Winter snapped LIU's shooting draught with a jumper at 1:44, but SFU took a 43-12 lead into the break.
Boyd once again opened scoring for LIU in the second half, with an early layup. But Katie Reese went on a tear for the Red Flash. The guard hit back to back three pointers and made a layup, single-handedly widening SFU's lead to 51-14. Freshman
Seneca Richards hit a three at 4:03, and would hit another jumper in the fourth quarter. Senior
Brianna Farris would hit a three with just over four minutes left in the game, but the damage had been done, and Saint Francis took the win, 74-30.

Aja Boyd led LIU with nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the win, while Dove and Richards each added five points. Up next, the Blackbirds take on Robert Morris at home, Monday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
