BOCA RATON, FLA. --- The second day of the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament was a major success for the LIU Brooklyn softball team as the Blackbirds swept its two games, 3-0 against Ball State and 4-2 versus Illinois State.

GAME 1: LIU 3, BALL STATE 0
LIU moved its record back to .500 (10-10) by shutting out its first opponent of the season. The Blackbirds did their damage in the second inning, using a pair of RBI singles to drive in three runs. The inning began with the Blackbirds loading the bases on a walk and a pair of singles. After a line out by senior Kylie Mulholland, senior Kayla Gloady knocked a single through the left side to and junior Angie Vazquez scored from third.

Two batters later, junior Victoria Zamora's single up the middle drove in sophomore Schae Dickson and moved junior Gina Bond to third. Bond would score on an fielding error to add the game's final run.

Gloady and Zamora were both perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 respectively with an RBI each.

Junior Erynn Sobieski pitched a complete game in the shutout - her third of the season - while only allowing four hits and one walk during her time on the mound.

GAME 2: LIU 4, ILLINOIS STATE 2
Sophomore Samantha Offenback belted her team-leading fifth home run of the season to complete LIU's rally against Illinois State and secure the day's sweep for the Blackbirds (11-10).

Illinois State put LIU into a 2-0 hole in the second inning after drawing a hit by pitch and hitting a single with the bases loaded. The Blackbirds answered in the next half inning thanks to the bat of Vazquez. With runners on second and third, Vazquez got Zamora home on a groundout to second base to cut ISU's lead in half. During the same sequence, freshman Angie Rizzi overran third but was still able to score after a throwing error from first base.

The game-winning sequence developed quickly in the top half of the sixth inning. Bond singled to right center on the first pitch she saw and Offenback hit the homer on the first pitch as well, putting the Blackbirds back in front for good.

Sophomore Tallie Woodson earned the victory (5-5) after throwing a complete game, striking out three and giving up two runs on eight hits.

LIU will play its final two games of the FAU tournament on Saturday, March 11 at 3:45pm versus Brown University and Sunday, March 12 at 11:15 am against FIU.
