BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team had its second win of the season Friday afternoon in dominating fashion, as the Blackbirds beat Gardner-Webb, 22-11. The 22 goals ties for second-most in LIU lacrosse history. It's only the third time LIU has reached that plateau, including once last season, and it is just two goals shy of the program record of 24. 11 different Blackbird players scored in the win for LIU, led by senior 
Jenn Peters, with six goals.
Gardner-Webb opened scoring just 40 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal, but the Blackbirds answered immediately, when senior 
Tori Shinkowitz won one of her four draw controls, took it down the field and scored just six seconds later to tie it up, 1-1.
Senior 
Jenn Peters, who led all scorers with six goals, would score the next two goals for LIU over two minutes, putting the Blackbirds up, 3-1. Five minutes into the half, junior 
Sierra O'Connor had a goal off a pass from Peters, and the senior would score another two unassisted goals over the next two minutes, giving LIU a 6-1 lead after just six minutes of play.
Candice Mosal and 
Kathryn Harvey both had goals for the Blackbirds in the middle of the half, helping bump LIU's lead to 8-5. The Blackbirds closed the half in strong fashion, scoring three goals in the final two and a half minutes of play to go up, 11-5. Harvey had her second score of the contest at the 2:25 mark, followed by goals from 
Christina Zolezzi and 
Mackenzie Rolland in the final 90 seconds, both assisted by Peters.
The Blackbirds continued the run into the second half, with a goal by 
Bianca Santucci just a minute and a half into play. Senior 
Jillian May would add two more over the next three minutes, along with an unassisted goal by 
Kayla Riley at 22:40 to make it 15-9.
Mosal, Shinkowitz, Peters, McQueen and Santucci would all score again for LIU in the final 15 minutes of the game, putting the Blackbirds up by a final score of 22-11.
Senior 
Jenn Peters would finish the game with six goals and three assists, while 
Bianca Santucci and 
Tori Shinkowitz both had hat tricks for LIU. Shinkowitz also had four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Senior 
Mary McQueen had a goal and an assist for LIU, along with three draw controls, while senior 
Mackenzie Rolland had four ground balls, three caused turnovers, two assists and a goal. Sophomore 
Kathryn Harvey had two goals, two ground balls, two draw controls and an assist, while 
Jillian May had two goals, 
Christina Zolezzi had a goal and an assists, and 
Candice Mosal had a goal, three ground balls and two draw controls.
Sophomore 
Virginia Gibbons had the win in net for LIU, making nine saves.
Up next, the Blackbirds return home to Brooklyn to host their home opener, welcoming Manhattan College to LIU Field, Saturday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m.
