Complete Day One and Two Results
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 14 nationally-ranked LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 3-2 on the first day of the Vanderbilt Music City Classic and 4-1 in the second day of action, moving to 12
th place in the standings out of 35 teams, with a 7-3 overall record so far. The Blackbirds had a pinfall of 4,693 on day one and 4,611 on day two, for a total team pinfall of 9,304 so far. Wins over host and No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt, as well as No. 10 Delaware State highlight the effort by LIU so far.
In Friday's baker matches, LIU had close losses to two top-25 ranked teams, opening with a loss to No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, 949-858 (170-187, 180-226, 182-152, 167-184, 159-200). The Blackbirds also fell to No. 24 Adelphi, 894-874 (171-178, 198-158, 172-172, 173-198, 160-188). But LIU bounced back with wins over Louisiana Tech (979-843) and Lincoln Memorial (980-836), along with one of their biggest wins of the season.
The Blackbirds had a huge win in their second match of the day, beating the home team and No. 3 nationally-ranked Vanderbilt, 1,002-950. LIU won by match scores of 189-158, 193-158, 224-204, 193-205, and 203-225, to give their home team one of just two losses in the tournament so far.
The Blackbirds continued to roll in the second day of action. After an opening round loss in traditional play to Alabama Birmingham, 940-922, LIU would bounce back to rattle off four straight wins and move into the 12 spot in Sunday's championship bracket.
Alyssa Balicki led LIU in the first match of the day with a 227, while
Kristina Genova had a 216.
The next match saw junior
Lauren McKowen lead the Blackbirds with a 235, in a 942-867 win over No. 23 Franklin Pierce. LIU also had wins over Mount Aloysius (871-837) and Bethune Cookman (888-802). And the Blackbirds caped the day with another win over a top-ranked team, as LIU defeated No. 10 Delaware State, 988-945. McKowen led LIU with a 252, while seniors
Madison Lukosius and
Tori Burkins both bowled 201s for the Blackbirds.
