MIAMI, FLA. --- LIU Brooklyn Track and Field kicked off its outdoor season this weekend in Coral Gables by taking part in the University of Miami Hurricane Invitational. The Blackbird men and women recorded 29 total top-20 results between them, including five top-5 marks.
Senior Rashema Briscoe produced the Blackbirds' best performance of the event, finishing as the runner up in the women's javelin with a toss of 131-10.00 (40.19m). On the men's side, sophomore Roderick Moodie led the LIU contingent with a fourth place showing in the 200 meters (21.47). Moodie was one of six Blackbirds to finish in the top 20 in the event, along with senior Karl Cajuste (8th, 21.58), sophomore Caleb Williams (9th, 21.65), freshman Sean Sinclair (13th, 21.91), freshman Corey Butcher (14th, 21.92), and senior Delano Davis (19th, 22.15).
The top men's efforts in the field events came in a pair of 5th place performances from senior Jahphan Lupuku and sophomore Clinton Belle in the long jump (21-9.00 / 6.63m) and shot put (48-3.25 / 14.71m) respectively. Sophomore Cayla Coleman logged the best showing on the track for the Blackbird women in the 800 meters, running a sixth place time of 2:18.30.
LIU will compete again on March 28 with teams running at the Florida Relays in Gainesville and the Texas Relays in Austin.
