NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The LIU Brooklyn bowling team wrapped up play at the Vanderbilt Music City Classic Sunday evening, capping the weekend with a 1-2 performance in the championship bracket against two top-15 nationally ranked teams, to finish the weekend 12
th out of 25 teams, with an 8-5 overall record. The Blackbirds ended the weekend with a total team pin fall of 12,110, or a 186.3 average per game.
Junior
Lauren McKowen earned All-Tournament Team honors, as she led the Blackbirds with a 218 average.
LIU opened play Sunday with a huge baker win, beating No. 4 Sam Houston State, 4-1. The Blackbirds beat the Bearkats to advance, 210-163, 184-172, 168-178, 171-167, 226-184.
In the second round, LIU fell to No. 12 University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and fell, 4-1 (167-188, 246-207, 171-184, 165-215, 161-211).
In the final round of the day, the Blackbirds had to face off against No. 4 Sam Houston State once more, and fell, 4-1, in a close match. LIU dropped two of the games by just five pins or fewer, 171-187, 202-206, 192-169, 165-160, 212-225.
The weekend concludes LIU's regular season action. Up next, the Blackbirds head to Howell, N.J., to take part in the annual Northeast Conference Tournament, Saturday, March 25 to Sunday, March 26.
