GAME 1: LIU 8, WAGNER 0 (F/5) The Blackbirds snapped a three-game losing streak by recording their fourth shutout win of the season and first since blanking Quinnipiac at home (8-0) on March 24. Juniors Gina Bond and Nereyda Gutierrez put LIU on the board with a run each in the third and fourth innings. Bond put the first run on the board with an RBI double to short that scored junior Victoria Zamora and Gutierrez hit a tricky grounder that nearly rolled foul but stayed fair long enough to allow sophomore Schae Dickson to reach home. LIU would end the game by scoring six more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Zamora started the offensive display by hitting a leadoff, first pitch home run to put the home team ahead, 3-0. Senior Kylie Mulholland added the team's fourth run by forcing a walk with the bases loaded and Gutierrez chipped in a RBI single to add two more (6-0). The team's final two runs came on a Wagner passed ball that scored Mulholland and a walkoff RBi single from Zamora. Junior Erynn Sobieski pitched five innings of three-hit ball to earn her tenth victory of the year while Zamora (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBi, 2 R) and Gutierrez (2-for-3, 3 RBI) paced the LIU bats. GAME 2: LIU 1, WAGNER 2 The Seahawks took the first lead of Game 2 in the third, alternating outs and hits in the inning and taking a 1-0 edge on a single to left field. Senior Kayla Gloady pulled LIU even in the fifth by singling past Wagner's shortstop on a full count and scoring Mulholland. Both teams failed to score in the sixth inning, raising the stakes in the seventh if the game was to be decided in regulation. Wagner's Karen Prihoda secured the eventual game-winner for the Seahawks after leading off the seventh with a double, advancing to third on a walk and scoring on a teammate's single. LIU took its chance to respond in the bottom half of the seventh but Mulholland, Gutierrez and Gloady were retired in order. Gloady was one of six LIU players to go 1-for-3, driving in the team's lone run in the process. NEXT UP LIU will host its final non-conference home game of the season on Wednesday, April 19th as the St. John's Red Storm visit the Blackbirds at LIU Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
