Softball | Apr 21 | Softball To Face Sacred Heart, FDU In NEC Action BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- Northeast Conference (NEC) play continues this weekend for the LIU Brooklyn softball team as the Blackbirds travel to Fairfield, Connecticut to face Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 22 and Teaneck, New Jersey to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, April 23. Saturday's doubleheader with the Pioneers is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. while Sunday's action is slated for a Noon start. LAST MEETINGS With the Blackbirds coming down the home stretch of the season, this weekend's matchups come at a welcome time. LIU swept SHU and FDU last season, outscoring the opponents 29-7 in the four games. LAST TIME OUT In the team's last non-conference home game of the season Wednesday, LIU was defeated by St. John's, 7-3. Sophomore Samantha Offenback and junior Angie Vazquez each hit home runs in the loss, the first multi-homer game since March 26 against Binghamton. LEADERS Junior Victoria Zamora, freshman Angie Rizzi, junior Gina Bond and Offenback sit atop the Blackbird stat sheet as the team's only hitters batting above .300 (minimum 30 GP). Zamora leads the way with a .376 mark, a .472 on base percentage, 33 runs scored, 50 hits and 70 total bases. Rizzi paces the Blackbirds in stolen bases (12), triples (2), sac bunts (5, tied) and walks (16) and is second in batting average (.348), hits (48), runs scored (31). Bond has hit the most doubles (10) on the team and is third in batting (.336), runs scored (25), and slugging percentage (.477). Offenback holds the team lead in home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.631) and is second in on base percentage (.430). Junior Erynn Sobieski is leading the pitching staff with a 10-11 record, 4.30 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
