Track Pulls Double Duty At Duke, Albany Meets

Story Links

BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams produced 22 total top 20 performances at a pair of meets this weekend - the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. and the UAlbany Spring Classic in upstate New York.

Nearly half of those top 20 finals marks - eight of 22 - were in the top five and the bulk of the Blackbirds' top performances came from the men at Duke (14 top 20s) and the women at Albany (seven top 20s).

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Of LIU's eight top fives at the Duke meet, three were runner-up marks in their respective events. Senior Delano Davis recorded the best individual mark of the weekend with a second place time 21.11 in the 200 Meters. Davis was also a part of one of LIU's two second place relays, running a 40.62 in the 4x100 Relay with Roderick Moodie, Caleb Williams and Collin Sewell. Both times currently stand as first on the Northeast Conference (NEC) Performance list.
  • LIU's other second place mark came in the 4x400 Relay as Kwesi Henderson, Sewell, DeShawn Bunion and Karl Cajuste finished in 3:15.46, one spot ahead of the Blackbirds' other quartet in the event (Adam Walker-Khan, Sean Sinclair, Garvey Moore, Logan Jones - 3:19.14).
  • Sophomore Zaahira Deboise gave LIU its best overall mark at the Albany meet with a fifth place time in the 400 Meters (1:01.58).
  • The best performance for the Blackbird women at Duke came from sophomore Shantae McDonald in the final of the 100 Hurdles. McDonald was third in the event, completing the race in a time of 14.04 - three-hundredths of a second off her NEC Performance List high mark of 14.01 from the preliminaries of the event.
  • LIU's top showings in the field events came courtesy of Walker-Khan in the Duke long jump (4th, 23-10.75 / 7.28m) and Jolie Mwambayi in the Albany triple jump (10th, 32-0.75 / 9.77m).
  • Overall, nine marks from the LIU contingent at Duke now sit in the top three of their events on the NEC Performance List.

NEXT UP
LIU will split their efforts once again this weekend, pulling double duty at the Penn Relays and the TCNJ Lion's Invitational.
