TEANECK, N.J. --- LIU Brooklyn Softball ended its final Northeast Conference (NEC) road weekend Sunday afternoon by splitting its two games against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. The Blackbirds were edged by FDU in the first game (4-3) before routing the Knights in the second game, 19-3, in five innings.

GAME 1: LIU 3, FDU 4
A pair of RBI singles in the second inning gave Fairleigh Dickinson an early 2-0 lead. Senior Kayla Gloady cut the Knights' lead in half in the top of the third with a leadoff home run to center field, her third of the season.

A FDU sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning put LIU behind by two (3-1) once again but the Blackbirds tie the contest with clutch hitting over the next two innings. Junior Nereyda Gutierrez made the score 3-2 with an RBI single through the right side in the fourth inning and fellow third-year Gina Bond tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth by hitting into a double play that allowed junior Victoria Zamora to make it home.

Fairleigh Dickinson drove in the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth by forcing a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. LIU could not put together a seventh inning response, closing the inning with four batters and one left on base.

GAME 2: LIU 19, FDU 3
Any disappointment from losing the first game was quickly set aside by the Blackbirds in the second game as LIU produced its second-largest offensive output of the year, trailing only the 21-5 victory over Purdue at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in February.

Freshman Angie Rizzi had a spectacular performance in the second game. Rizzi set a team season-high with a perfect 5-for-5 showing while scoring four runs and stealing a pair of bases. Eight of the ten Blackbird hitters to make at least one at-bat recorded a hit, with seven players logging two or more. Sophomore Schae Dickson went 2-for-3 with a team-high five RBI, three runs scored and her sixth home run of the season. Bond also homered for the Blackbirds, sending her third homer of the year out in the second inning. Sophomore Evie Claussell matched Rizzi's run scoring total with four of her own and junior Angie Vazquez drove in the second-most runs on the team with four RBI during her 2-for-4 game.

Dickson hit a sacrifice fly to right and Vazquez hit a two-run double in the first to put the Blackbirds up, 3-0. The Knights scored three runs on their own in the bottom half with a two-run homer and a run on a wild pitch.

LIU would proceed to score the next 16 runs in only four innings, doing so with two home runs, three singles, four doubles and a pair of FDU errors. The Blackbirds set season best in total hits (20), runs batted in (17, tied), stolen bases (4), total bases (33), doubles (7), and at-bats (38).
