BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn softball team opened its final home weekend of the regular season with a doubleheader against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The Blackbirds were unable to grab a victory in the twin bill, falling to CCSU, 3-1, in Game 1 and 2-0 in Game 2.

GAME 1: LIU 1, CCSU 3
Senior Kayla Gloady helped the Blackbirds avoid a shutout by hitting a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, her fourth long ball of the year. After Gloady's homer, fellow senior Shelley Procter reached base on a single. However, junior Gina Bond hit into a double play and freshman Angie Rizzi grounded out to end the Blackbird threat.

LIU's sixth inning efforts came after the visiting Blue Devils posted three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, driving in the runs on a pair of singles and a double.

GAME 2: LIU 0, CCSU 2
LIU could not find its offensive rhythm in another low scoring affair. CCSU scored a run in the second after a throwing error by the Blackbirds and added another in the sixth on a two-out RBI single.

The Blackbirds' put together their best threat in the bottom of the sixth as Bond, senior Kylie Mulholland and junior Angie Vazquez each singled to load the bases. CCSU escaped without an LIU run scoring after forcing junior Nereyda Gutierrez into a double play to end the inning.

Gloady once again led the Blackbirds, going 2-for-3 as the only LIU player with multiple hits in the game. Rizzi went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice hit
