BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn senior Jenn Peters broke the women's lacrosse program record for goals in a career Friday afternoon, scoring five goals in a 22-17 loss to Robert Morris on LIU Field. With those five, Peters now has 189 career goals, breaking the record of 185, set in 2007. Peters is also still in the hunt for the program's record for points in a career; the Slate Hill, N.Y. native has 238 career points, ranking her second all-time behind Amy Rizzo's 249.

The scoring came in spurts for the Blackbirds in Friday's contest against one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference. After Robert Morris scored four quick goals in the first five minutes of the game, senior Tori Shinkowitz got LIU on the board with an unassisted goal at 23:02. RMU would score twice more to widen the lead to 7-1, but then the Blackbirds started going on a tear.

LIU would score five straight goals over four minutes to close the lead to just one point. Junior Sierra O'Connor got the streak started, scoring a goal off a pass from Candice Mosal at 19:10. A minute later, it was Mosal's turn to score, off a pass from senior Mary McQueen. 30 second later, McQueen added an unassisted goal of her own, and on the next draw, Peters went to work. RMU won the draw, but O'Connor forced a turnover, and passed to Peters downfield. The senior took it straight to net, scoring in a one-on-one with the Colonial goalie to make it 7-5. Two minutes later, senior Kayla Riley closed the lead to one point, scoring an unassisted goal, her second of the season, to make it 7-6.

Robert Morris would regain momentum, scoring three straight goals to make it 10-6. Peters would score a goal at the three-minute mark, and McQueen added one with 16 seconds left to help LIU stay in the game, 10-8, but the Colonials would score a goal in a man up situation with six seconds left in the half, and took an 11-8 lead into the break.

RMU would score three goals to start the second half, going up 14-8, before Peters would complete the hat trick, scoring a goal at 26:06 to make it 14-9. O'Connor and Shinkowitz would score back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 15-11, but Robert Morris would score six of the next seven goals. Freshman Bianca Santucci had a score with 16 minutes left to play, but just before the 10-minute mark, the Colonials were up, 21-12.

This time, however, it was the Blackbirds who would battle back, scoring five of the final six goals of the game. Peters would score off a pass from O'Connor, and sophomore Rorie Crum had a free-position goal with 7:50 on the clock to make it 21-14. Peter would score again with 2:50 to play, and Santucci would net her second goal of the game with a minute to play. And Shinkowtiz would score for LIU with 13 seconds on the clock to close the lead to five, but Robert Morris took the win, 22-17.

Jenn Peters finished the game with five goals and two assists, while Sierra O'Connor had two goals nad two assists. Mary McQueen, Tori Shinkowitz and Bianca Santucci also had multiple goals for LIU in the loss. Sophomore Virginia Gibbons had 12 saves in net for LIU.
