WEST POINT, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team fell to Army on the road Wednesday afternoon, 14-9. The Black Knights scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach for the Blackbirds (17-21).
The Black Knights scored first in the bottom of the first frame, on a single home run and an RBI single, 2-0. LIU would take the lead for the first itme in the next inning. Two walks and a fielder's choice put runners on the corner, and freshman
Rob Griswold brought a run home with an RBI single to left field. The freshman then stole second, and two runners scored when senior
Charles Misiano had a two-RBI single to center field, making it 3-2, LIU.
Sophomore
Joe Mercadante would make it 4-2 when he led off the top of the third inning with a home run.
In the fourth inning, Army would score seven runs on seven hits to retake the lead, 9-4.
LIU would score again in the next inning, after sophomore
Luis Arias de los Santos scored on a wild pitch, and Griswold had his second RBI single of the day, cutting the gap to 9-6.
Six more hits in the bottom of the eighth would help put the Knights on top for good, scoring five runs to make it 14-6, and one inning later, that would be the final score of the contest.
