BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn men's soccer alum Tanner Sica has signed a contract to play professional soccer in Iceland just one year after graduating from LIU.
Sica signed a professional contract in mid-May, and is now playing for UMF Tindastóll in the Icelandic 2nd division. The club is located in the town of Sauðárkrókur, Iceland.
"I'm thrilled that Tanner's hard work, and patience has earned him the opportunity to live his dream," men's soccer head coach
TJ Kostecky said. "He's found a club that values his abilities and I wish them the best."
Sica, who graduated from LIU in 2015, played for four years as a Blackbird, leading LIU to a Northeast Conference championship title in his senior season. Named to the All-Northeast Region Third Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in his final year, Sica hung up his LIU jersey with a string of accolades and accomplishments to take with him. Sica collected his third consecutive All-NEC honor in 2016, and made his initial first team appearance. The senior defender tallied five points while helping the LIU defense surrender just three goals in seven conference games, tied for first in the NEC.
