Men's Track & Field | Jun 13 | Men's Outdoor Track Earns NEC Sportsmanship Award Story Links NEC Release BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- For the second time in three years, the LIU Brooklyn outdoor track and field team has been honored by the Northeast Conference (NEC) with one of its Team Sportsmanship Awards for the 2016-17 spring season. Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria. The Blackbirds put together a stellar outdoor season this year: earning a silver medal in the NEC Championships for the sixth consecutive year, winning the ECAC/IC4A crown, picking up 11 All-NEC honors (seven First Team, three Second Team, one All-Rookie) and helping head coach Simon Hodnett win his first-ever NEC outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year award. "The Northeast Conference holds the principles of sportsmanship and pursuing victory with honor in the highest regard," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "I applaud our student-athletes, coaches and fans for their commitment in this area, and congratulate those teams honored for their role in promoting the ideals and fundamentals of good sportsmanship." 2016-17 NEC Spring Sportsmanship Awards Baseball - Central Connecticut Men's Golf - Robert Morris Women's Golf - Wagner Men's Lacrosse - Robert Morris Women's Lacrosse - Central Connecticut MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD - LIU BROOKLYN Women's Outdoor Track & Field - St. Francis Brooklyn Softball - Wagner Men's Tennis - Wagner Women's Tennis - Bryant
