BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn bowling team was recognized for their work in the classroom this week, as they earned a National Tenpin Coaches Association's Team Academic Award, it was announced by the NTCA Wednesday. The Blackbirds ranked third in the nation in team GPA, finishing the 2016-17 school year with a 3.65 average. The Northeast Conference also honored the Blackbirds earlier this summer for the highest average in the conference in the sport of bowling.
To be recognized by the NTCA, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for the academic school year. This season, there were 36 programs that reached this milestone.
Eight individuals also earned NTCA All-Academic Awards. To be recognized, a student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year. This year, there were 229 honorees, representing 50 NCAA programs.
