BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Headed into the second season of the LIU Brooklyn field hockey's program history, head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer has announced five freshman and one transfer student will be joining the Blackbird family this fall.
Jenna Chrabolowski, Bridget Elison, Eveline Gielisse, Adena Gordon, Amy Reid and Eva Sholten will join the LIU program in August.
"We are extremely thrilled to welcome our second incoming class of student athletes to our program and the Blackbird family," DeSandes-Moyer said. "Our incoming Blackbirds are experienced international players, from some of the top high school programs in the US, and have earned numerous regional awards and accolades. They are well-rounded athletes who have extensive experience playing on their club teams, and we are confident that they will contribute to our second year as a program. Collectively, we have some very experienced players joining our team, who we are looking to have an immediate impact, and lead on our team right away."
Jenna Chrabolowski comes to LIU from Manchester, New Hampshire. A midfielder who played for Central High School and Seacoast United, she has been named All-Region and All-State multiple times, as well as being named team MVP and captain. She led her high school team in both scoring and assists in back to back seasons.
Bridget Elison is a goalkeeper from Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, who played for Garnet Valley High School and the Horizon field hockey club. An honorable mention All-Central honoree, she had over 450 career saves in just two seasons.
Eveline Gielisse is one of two signees to come to LIU from the Netherlands. A defender and midfielder from Zeist, she played for one of the best club teams in the Netherlands over the past four seasons, as well as for her school field hockey team, which won the regional championship in her senior season.
Adena Gordon is a forward and midfielder from Chesapeake, Virginia, where she played for Norfolk Academy and the Saints Hockey club. Gordon helped lead her team to back-to-back state championship appearances, including a championship title in her senior season. Norfolk Academy was ranked as high as 11th in the nation last season.
Amy Reid comes to LIU as a transfer from Missouri State. A Scotland native, Reid is a midfielder and defender, and played in over 20 games for Missouri State, including 14 in her junior season. An experienced player, she also played for David Senior High School, and was named to the Missouri State Athletic Director's Honor Roll last fall.
Eva Scholten is the second player to come to downtown Brooklyn from the Netherlands. A Vught native, she will play midfield and forward for LIU. A member of the HC MOP Club team, she played games throughout the Netherlands at one of the highest levels of hockey. Starting her career in Sydney, Australia, she was a student at the highest university prep track, and will bring extensive international playing experience to LIU Field.
LIU field hockey begins play Friday, August 25th, taking on Lehigh in the 2017 season opener.
