BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- LIU Brooklyn women's basketball head coach Stephanie Del Preore released the Blackbirds' full 2017-18 schedule Thursday afternoon. The 29-game slate includes 11 non-conference contests and a 14-game home schedule, including a matchup at Barclays Center, the home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets. The date and opponent for LIU Brooklyn's Barclays Center game will be released later in the fall.
LIU will open this year's campaign in New Haven, Conn. on Friday, Nov. 10 with a matchup against Yale at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The opener against the Bulldogs will be the first of five road games in the Blackbirds' first six contests. The lone home game during that span is the team's season premiere at Steinberg Wellness Center against Saint Peter's on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The Blackbirds will close out November with games at UMBC (Nov. 17), Army West Point (Nov. 20), Lafayette (Nov. 25), and NJIT (Nov. 29).
LIU's December schedule will be the exact opposite of November, with five of its six games at home. Outside of its road trip to George Mason on Thursday, Dec. 7, LIU will host Michigan (Dec. 2) Lehigh (Dec. 10), Manhattan (Dec. 16), Navy (Dec. 20), and St. Francis Brooklyn (12/29) in its Northeast Conference opener and the first leg of the Battle of Brooklyn.
LIU will begin 2018 on the road with its first NEC weekend trip of the season, with the Blackbirds taking on defending conference champion Robert Morris on Saturday, Jan. 6 and Saint Francis U. on Monday, Jan. 8. Including this trip, LIU will alternate playing its two weekend games at home or away for six straight weeks.
LIU's first full home league weekend will pit the Blackbirds against Wagner on Saturday, Jan. 13 and Mount St. Mary's on Monday, Jan. 15. After that, the Blackbirds will head back on the road for games at Bryant (Jan. 20) and Central Connecticut (Jan. 22), host 2016 NEC Tournament runner-up Sacred Heart (Jan. 27) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Jan. 29), and complete its first home-and-homes with trips to Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 3) and Wagner (Feb. 5).
Robert Morris and Saint Francis come to Brooklyn on Feb. 10 and 12, respectively and LIU wraps its road schedule with three straight league games - at St. Francis Brooklyn on Feb. 17, at FDU on Feb. 24, and SHU on Feb. 26.
LIU will close the regular season with home games against Bryant on Mar. 2 and CCSU on Mar. 4.
The Northeast Conference Tournament will begin on March 7 and culminate with the NEC title game on March 11 at the highest remaining seed.
