LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team fell to Rider on the road Saturday afternoon in double overtime, 2-1. The Blackbirds evened up the game in the second half to force overtime, but a free kick in the second overtime period would end the game in favor of the home team.

Rider would open the game with a flurry of offense, that included five shots and three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of action. The Broncs would convert an opportunity at 16:35, when they would score off a corner kick to take the 1-0 lead. LIU's defense held the home team scoreless for the rest of the half, and Rider led, 1-0 at the break.

LIU would get on the board quickly in the second half, scoring just three minutes in. Juniors Erik Wahlin and Filip Nordstrom would combine on a cross to the middle of the box, where junior Rasmus Hansen was waiting. Hansen finished the shot to the inside right corner, and the game was knotted up, 1-1.

Hansen would give the Blackbkirds another chance in the 88th minute, when he fired a shot on goal. Rider's goalie would make the save, and regulation ended with the two teams tied, 1-1.

In the first overtime period, neither team would get a shot off for the first nine minutes of action. Rider had one with two seconds remaining in the period, but LIU keeper Cole Palmer made the save, and the period ended.

In the second overtime period, Wahlin would have a shot in the 104th minute, but it was high. An LIU yellow card just over a minute later would result in a free kick for Rider just outside the box, and the Broncs would score to end the game, taking the 2-1 win in double overtime.

Up next, the Blackbirds will host Siena College, Friday, September 22 at 6 p.m. on LIU Field.
