Men’s Soccer Heads South to Take on La Salle

Live Stats

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team is headed to Philadelphia for a midweek non-conference matchup this Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m., facing off against the Atlantic 10's La Salle Explorers.

LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds are coming off their first win of the season, having defeated Howard 3-1 at home Sunday afternoon. Junior Rasmus Hansen, sophomore Giuseppe Barone and junior Filip Nordström scored for LIU in the win.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
La Salle enters Wednesday's game at 4-4 overall, having won four straight games. The Explorers outscored opponents 9-2 in those wins, and have a potent offense. La Salle ranks 21st in the nation in scoring offense, and 25th in the country in points per game.

An experienced senior class leads the Explorers. Senior forward Matt Robinson is the team's leading point scorer, with four goals and three assists, while freshman Soji Olatoye has three goals and two assists. Seniors Johnny Ciarlante, Kenny Lassister and Mike Liska all also have two goals so far this season.

And the offense is backed up by a strong keeper. Sophomore goalie Mark Tobin has been named Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week  the last two weeks. He had a shutout against Penn last week, and has a .826 save percentage, ranking second in the A10 and 30th in the nation.

UP NEXT
The Blackbirds return to downtown Brooklyn for one final non-conference tune-up before Northeast Conference action begins. LIU will host the University at Albany, Tuesday, October 3 at 6 p.m
