BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team will take on two Pennsylvania teams this weekend, squaring off with Villanova, Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m., and at Bucknell, Sunday, September 10 at 12 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds are continuously knocking on the door for their first win as a collegiate program. LIU lost two close games on their Missouri road trip, including a 2-1 double overtime loss to Colgate to cap the weekend. Freshman Jenna Chrabolowski scored both of LIU's goals last weekend.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Villanova is still looking for their first win of the season as well. The 0-4 Wildcats most recently fell to Saint Joseph's (2-1 in OT) and Indiana (4-3) at home.
Junior forward Lydia Sydnor and sophomore midfielder Christen Pennington are the team's points leaders early on, as each as scored two goals this season. Sophomore forward Emma McLaughlin leads the team with two assists, while junior goalie Erika Miller has made 22 saves so far this year, for a 5.50 saves per game average, fifth in the BIG EAST.
Last year, Villanova bested the Blackbirds, 7-0 in a game in Conshahocken, Pa.
SCOUTING THE BISON
Bucknell is 1-3 this year, with their lone win coming 3-1 over Temple. Last weekend, the Bison fell to No. 5 Syracuse, 5-0, and dropped a close game at Cornell, 1-0.
Bucknell has a balance offense, with their five goals coming from five different players. It is the first time these two programs will meet on the field hockey field.
UP NEXT
The Blackbirds have one final weekend on the road before returning to downtown Brooklyn for their home opener. LIU will play at Longwood (Sept. 16) and at VCU (Sept. 17), before hosting Towson on LIU Field on September 24.
