Swimming Cruises to Wins over Monmouth and Saint Peter's in Tri-Meet

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team cruised to a pair of  non-conference wins in a tri-meet, beating Saint Peter's, 195-50, and Monmouth, 167-93, on Saturday at the Hawks' Steadman Natatorium in West Long Branch, N.J. The Blackbirds (5-2) won thirteen of the fourteen events on the day, including both relays.

Sophomore Noemie Lacroix-Moreau and  freshman Amanda Peren each won three individual events and a relay to lead the squad.

Individually, Lacroix-Moreau took the top spot in the 1000 freestyle (11:16.98), 100 backstroke (1:02.71) and 50 butterfly (27.95), while Peren won the 100 freestyle (54.73), 50 freestyle (25.24) and the 200 individual medley in 2:13.79.

Senior Milly Furneaux won both the 100 breaststroke (1:07.70) and the 50 breaststroke in 30.88. Mads Carrigan finished second in the shorter race and the 200 freestyle in 2:00.73, just behind freshman Jeanne Touchette-McGowan in 1:59.10. Touchette-McGowan also won the 500 freestyle race in 5:20.21 and slotted second in the 100 free behind Peren.

Junior Nathalie Meyers won her first race of the season, the 50 backstroke in 29.70, with freshman Alyssa Juris just behind in second in 30.05. Meyers also earned second in the 100 backstroke, less than a second behind Lacroix-Moreaux in 1:03.61. Briana Vega also placed second in her only individual event, the 100 butterfly.

The opening event of the meet was the 200 medley relay with Peren, Furneaux, Vega and Juris winning in 1:53.42 and the final event, the 400 freestyle relay of Carrigan, Lacroix-Moreux, Touchette-McGowan and Vega cruised to a victory in 3:43.07

The Blackbirds will travel over the Verrazano Bridge again next Saturday, January 27, to face Northeast Conference foe Wagner in Staten Island at 1:00 p.m.
