TEANECK, N.J. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Fairleigh Dickinson in Northeast Conference action on Friday. Midway through the second half (65th minute), FDU's Viktorija Miseljic took a shot in that went off of LIU goalkeeper
Megan Virgin fingertips and the crossbar, back into the field of play, allowing Miseljic to put away the rebound for the game winner.
Virgin, a sophomore in her eighth start of the season between the pipes for the Blackbirds, made a career-best 12 saves in the game, holding off the more aggressive Blue Devils in the first half. LIU (2-10-3, 0-4-1 NEC) senior forward Marian Awad led the offense with three shots (one on goal), while classmate Deanna Ellison and freshmen Emily Poole and Mary Twetten each had one shot on goal.
Elma Kolenovic added the second goal in the 84th minute to put the game out of reach for the Knights (5-7-3, 3-1-1). Goalkeeper Amanda Fitzgerald made four saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
Up next, the Blackbirds will host their final home match of the season against another NEC foe, the league-leading Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
