READING, PA. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's bowling went 3-2 on the second day at the Kutztown Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament on Sunday in Reading, Pa. The No. 19 Blackbirds carried a 170.3 average in traditional games to finish in 12th place in Sunday's event, giving the team a 7-3 record following their first two days of competition this season.
With traditional bowling on the Sunday menu, LIU's second day tournament began with an 805-771 defeat by No. 15 Adelphi. LIU perked up in match number two to top Roberts Wesleyan, 961-867. In the second match, sophomore Stephanie Judkins had a 205 and senior Kayla Johnson threw a 215 to lead the way.
In the middle match, versus former NEC member Caldwell, the Blackbirds received a 224 from junior Tyler Karpinecz to win the match, 895-805. Next up was a new bowling rival, Mount St. Mary's, a first-year program that won Saturday's event at KU. Mount continued it's impressive start, topping LIU 895-773 in their first-ever head-to-head match.
The Blackbirds bounced back again to win the day's final match, 858-782 over Howard, to clinch a winning record for the second straight day and giving the LIU program its 12th consecutive winning day at the Kutztown event, going back to the 2013 season.
Johnson, who was named to the All-Tournament team on Saturday, led the Blackbirds with a 190.8 average, playing in all five matches on Sunday.
LIU will head right back into action next Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure one-day event up in East Haven, Conn.
