BROOKLYN, N.Y— LIU Brooklyn volleyball alumna Adriana Viñas Joy '15 is currently competing for the Puerto Rico national team at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan from September 29-October 20.
It is her first appearance at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships which takes place every four years. The championship is comprised of the top 24 senior national teams from around the world. Puerto Rico is currently competing in Pool D, posting a 2-1 record with the final two matches of pool play on Wednesday and Thursday against Serbia and the Dominican Republic.
Viñas Joy competed for the Blackbirds from 2012-2015, producing one of the program's most decorated careers. She was a four-time All-NEC First team honoree and the first-ever four-time NEC Libero of the Year award winner. Viñas Joy is the Blackbirds all-time leader in digs with 2,024 for her career. She helped guide LIU to three NEC Championships in her tenure in downtown Brooklyn.
Puerto Rico's next two matches are slated for a first serve of 12:40 a.m. (Eastern Time) on Wednesday and Thursday, the matches can be seen on Volleyball TV($).
