WEST ORANGE, NJ—The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team completed their fall season, concluding play at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate at the Montclair Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. The Blackbirds recorded their best finish of the fall with a fifth place showing for a two-day score of 604 (290-314).
LIU showed extraordinary grit and composure as windy conditions plagued the course all throughout play. Freshman Kyle Underwood, senior George Helsby and senior Daniel Reale all shot 72's on the first day of competition to position themselves in a three-way tie for seventh place overall. Underwood would lead the Blackbird scoring, shooting 77 (+9) on day-two to finish in 11th place. Senior teammates Helsby and Reale carded 78 (+10) and 81 (+13) to finish 15th and 31st respectfully.
Sophomore Manuel Sosa would join his teammate Reale and finish 13-over 153. Fellow classmate Jayden Brown rounded out the Blackbird scoring group with a top 50 finish of 155 (74-81).
Freshman Abelardo Yepez competed individually for the Blackbirds, shooting 158.
St. Peter's University claimed the team title (583), followed by Villanova (597) and Iona College (598). Villanova's Connor Daly claimed the individual title for the Wildcats.
LIU Brooklyn will take the off-season to ready themselves for the 2019 spring season when they begin play in March.
