WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.— The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team fell to Monmouth on Friday afternoon, 10-0 to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
The Hawks (7-5, 2-0 MAAC) offense put the pressure on the Blackbirds (2-10, 0-1 MAAC) early picking up six goals in the opening half including four in the opening 16 minutes. LIU recorded three shots in the opening half with junior Skai Sprenkle recording two shots and freshman Eva van Wakeren also adding a shot that sailed just high over the crossbar in the 22nd minute.
Monmouth closed the second half with four more goals to take contest at "So Sweet A Cat" field. Junior Molly Jannell recorded nine saves in 52 minutes and sophomore Bridget Elison picked up a save in 17 minutes of play for LIU.
