BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team will host Northeast Conference rival Wagner on Saturday, as the Blackbirds will host their annual Alumni Day at LIU Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
BLACKBIRDS OVERVIEW
LIU (2-8-3, 0-2-1) will be looking to stop their longest non-winning streak of the season on Saturday. The Blackbirds have the NEC's second leading goal scorer, senior Marian Awad (7 goals, 14 points) to lead the offense. This season has also seen younger players make significant contributions, as freshman Emily Poole leads the team in assists with three and sophomore Brittany Fazin scored her first career goal last week against Sacred Heart.
SEAHAWKS OVERVIEW
Like the Blackbirds, Wagner (1-10, 0-3 NEC) is looking for its' first NEC win of the season. The team is led offensively by both Le'la Allen and Maria Nunez with two goals apiece. LIU is 14-6-1 all-time against the Seahawks, with the one time coming last season. In 2017 in Staten Island, each with first-year coaches on the sidelines, the teams played to a scoreless draw.
NEXT WEEK
The Blackbirds have a rare away/home NEC weekend up next, with a match at Fairleigh Dickinson next Friday, Oct. 12, before returning to Brooklyn on Sunday, Oct. 14 for the final home contest of the season.
