BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team improved to 8-2 in dual meets on the season, with an impressive 150-103 win over Lafayette at the Steinberg Wellness Center, on Saturday. The Blackbirds won 13 of the 14 races in their final dual meet of the calendar year.
Sophomore Amanda Peren won three individual races in the meet, both backstrokes events and the 50 freestyle (25.16) for the first time in her career. She just edged out LIU freshman Lydia Amon (25.21) in the 50 yard sprint. In her signature events, Peren touched in at 1:00.16 in the 100 backstroke and in 2:08.12 in the 200 yard race.
Freshman
Amanda San Juan, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week won two solo races, the 200 and 500 freestyles, coming in at 1:57.85 and 5:21.89, respectively. In the 100 freestyle, San Juan was just edged out of the top spot by Amon, her classmate, who won in 54.85, which won by 0.23.
Two more newcomers won their first-ever collegiate races, as freshman Mackenzie Burnett, went 2:31.46 in the 200 breaststroke, to just beat out LIU sophomore Avery Vernon (2:32.97); while Jacqueline Grabowski squeezed out a win in the 100 butterfly, touching in at 1:00.69, only 0.17 ahead of her Leopards opponent.

Mads Carrigan won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.58) over teammate
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan. In turn, McGowan won the grueling 400 individual medley in 4:41.48 over Carrigan. Junior
Noemie Lacroix-Moreau dominated the 200 butterfly (2:12.49), winning by almost five seconds.
The Blackbirds also won both the 200 medley relay (1:50.70) behind a team of Lacroix-Moreau, Carrigan, Grabowski and Amon to begin the meet, then had the top time in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.83) with a foursome of Peren, Lacroix-Moreau, San Juan and Amon.
LIU will now be off from competition for a few weeks, and be back in action at the ECAC Championships from Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Long Island.
