BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn men's indoor track & field team kicks off the 2018-19 season this Saturday, December 1 in the Fast-Track Season Opener at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
The Blackbirds garnered a runner-up finish at last year's Northeast Conference Indoor Championship, getting edged out by CCSU. LIU returns a veteran group for the 2018-19 campaign with 16 upperclassmen on this year's roster for head coach Simon Hodnett.
LIU brings back three event champions from last year's NEC Indoor Championship. Senior Sean Sinclair returns to defend 200m after a time of 21.72 a season ago. Junior Colin Sewell had a standout second season in downtown Brooklyn last year with a win in the 400m with a time of 48.50. Senior Braylon Wilkerson rounds out the returning All-NEC First Team honorees after taking the title in the 500m event. Both Sewell & Wilkerson join junior Kwese Henderson on the defending 4x400 champion relay team.
The Blackbirds also return three All-Conference second team selections in senior Roderick Moodie, who finished runner up in the 60m hurdles. Sophomore Justin Brown who placed second in the 400m behind Sewell and senior Clinton Belle in the shot put event.
LIU brings in five new student-athletes to the fold this season. Junior duo of Kimorie Shearman and Kasique Oliver join the Blackbirds sprinting squad. Freshmen Krishna White and Jashira Dunbar look to step into big roles in the jumping events. Freshman TJ Roberts, brother of two-time NEC Champion, Kareem Roberts '18 joins the hurdles group for the Blackbirds.
The Blackbirds indoor slate will feature nine meets in the metropolitan area, with a majority at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex and a pair of meets at the Manhattan Armory. The meets will serve as a tune up for the Northeast Conference Championships that will take place February 15-16, 2019.
